Number 7, one of the five 1956 Corvettes to race at Sebring
in 1956. Four were special factory prepared race models, while this one
was actually a production model. If you read Mr. Noland Adams book "Corvette
American Legends: 1956 Racing Success" you understand that this
was a significant year in establishing Corvette as a serious contender in
domestic racing events. |

Note the tonneau cover over the passengers seat. |
|   |
|   |
Note the tall "light house" shaped lamp to illuminate
the entry number 7 for night racing at the 12 Hours of Sebring. It's a 49-50
Chevy license lamp. |

|   |
|   |
Note large fuel filler in the center of the deck
lid. |
|   |
|   |
No need for a trunk lock cylinder with the leather
hold down strap. |
|   |
|   |
Note the exhaust pipe dump in front of the rear wheels and
the scoop for brake cooling. |

Another view of the exhaust, scoop and the Halibrand
KO's. |

|   |
|   |
Note the plexiglass wind screen, Guide Y50 mirror
and hood leather strap. |
|   |
|   |
Note the tonneau cover with compartment divider and the snap
on covering over the former door glass window slots. |
|   |
|   |
Black leather belts for extra hood security on
the hood. |
|   |
|   |
Note the buckle end of the Black leather belts and the hole
from the absent windshield wiper transmissions. |
|   |
|   |
Note the typical dual quad air cleaners and washer bag - that
is being used as a radiator recovery tank. |
|   |
|   |
Note the Red and Orange marker lamps on the right front fender
with the painted head lamp rims. Each of the 4 Sebring entries had different
colored lights for night time identification. The owner told me one Sebring
Corvette entrant had 2 red, another 2 orange and the other 2 swapped the
red and orange positions to alert the the pit crews which one was entering
the pits at night. |

I guess this would qualify as a heater block off plate and
a wiper delete plate too. After I posted this picture, the owner John Neas
sent me the following 8x10 glossy from 1956 showing 3 men making modifications
at Sebring and those 2 block off plates are dead-on as shown in both picture. |

This #7 Sebring entrant was production number 009 and prior
to its race debut had the 1956 small heater. Thanks for the information
John. |
