Carlisle has evolved into a gigantic Corvette social event, beyond the mere search for cars and parts. I had the pleasure of dining, drinking, errrrrr networking with many friends including Craig Schultz and Joe Lucia shown below examining the Chips Choice Corvette display.
Some friends had their 3rd Annual Carlisle National meet and barbeque and it was outstanding.
I honestly did drink more beer than normal. However I was not at all sick, hung over or otherwise incapacitated, other than being half lit and smiling like a Chesire Cat. On Thursday and Friday it was so hot, and even more humid that we lapped up the beer and it was quickly converted to perspiration. An ice cold beer was truly a great ice breaker in the heat.
I know these folk were in attendance because I had the pleasure of drinking with many of them also and/or lying about our Corvettes. Stan Falenski, Mark Jackson, Noland Adams (always the consummate gentleman) not that others weren't. Scott and Jerry Kohn were only waved too after breakfast one day. Ed & Bev Collins, Neil & Lois Porter, Bob & Sue Wadyka, Tom Keen, Larry & Lisa Williams, Terry McMahon, Richie Englehart, Tom Taylor, Jay Stoudt (he's is better shape than all of us, and really tan too :D). John Roberto, Hank Haight, Bill Taylor, John Whaley, Gary Mortimer, Page Campbell, Mark Kibbe, Murell Dobbins, Mike Kindel, Terry and Fred Michaelis (they didn't see me.). Bill Carlson brought his 53 from Connecticut for the 50th anniversary display. Fifty-four 1953's were in attendance, a record number for any 1953 gathering. That's 16% of production.
Sunday I stopped by to see Kevin Mackay and found Steve Weidemann & Mike Yeager were bending his ear. Mike again asked me for a number, and I said not yet, I'm having too much fun now. Also got to personally thank Mike Allen for giving me a new exhaust system for my 1968 435 convertible. In June Debbie ordered it and said it was for my car, he shipped it with a note saying "Merry Christmas" Thanks again Mike, I do appreciate your thoughtfulness and fine service.
I don't know how you could have topped this weekend.
