It never ceases to amaze me how a vengeful person will embellish their story to add credibility or create sympathy. And then even have their pal notarize those statements with a similar tale. Following is an example I just recently found on the Internet even though it was printed in 1996 on the Vettenet. From Mr. H.D.Bryant own admission we can establish the following facts. The date this was originally posted to Vettenet was Friday Dec 27, 1996. He readily admitted he was using catalog volume 21 and wanted to order our part number 2660319 for $35.40 each. What he neglected to mention was that he was trying to buy a discontinued GM part at the old GM price printed in a 2-year-old catalog. And then he tried to lie and say that he had just received that 2-year-old catalog because it had stamps on the back cover.
The facts are as follows:
Catalog # 21 was printed and distributed in 1994 as shown above on the left.
Catalog # 22 was printed and distributed in 1995 as shown above in the center.
Catalog # 23 was printed and distributed in 1996 as shown above on the right and below.
Shown below on page 159 in catalog #23 is the price for the part Mr. H.D.Bryant wanted to order. Part number 2660319 was listed at $120.00 and indicated these were NOS discontinued GM lamps. In our catalog #22 they weren't even listed with a price - it said call because we could not get any supply. I found a number of them in 1995 and put them back in our catalog. He tried to badger me into selling him these at our discount price in catalog #21. Back then we actually had sold them below list, when GM was still producing them.
I have little patience for anyone who lies to me, and I easily caught him. When we distribute our catalogs via mail they are heat sealed in plastic poly bags. When a mailed catalog is received, the outer clear plastic bag is discarded along with the affixed postage stamps. If you had gotten any edition of our catalog in July 1996, there is little chance it would still have the plastic outer wrapper in December since it is not actually attached to the catalog itself and you have to tear the bag open to slip the catalog out. Besides the fact that in 1996 we were distributing #23.
Our Catalogs were mailed in Plastic Poly Bags from 1992 forward Our 1991 catalog #19 was 112 pages with a card stock cover which was suited for direct application of stamps. However in 1992, our catalog #20 increased to 196 pages and our printer could no longer used a card stock cover. From there forward our catalogs had a plain paper cover.
We soon discovered that the plain paper cover would not withstand the rigors of the US Postal service, because some covers would be torn off during delivery. Sometimes, the only thing to arrive was the cover with the address label and postage. After this happened a number of times we started packaging catalogs in poly bags. It started during 1992 and continues to this day, unless a catalog is placed in a carton with a part order. But he never ordered, so he never got one in that manner. Nor did we mail him one, because he was never on out mailing list.
The US Mail regulations require the postage on the outside of the plastic bag unless its a bulk rate mailing. However bulk rate mailings don't have a cancellation date. Instead they only have the bulk rate permit number. Our permit was 664. Remember the statement of he turned the catalog over and it had stamps on it. It just could not have happened in 1996.
Now I don't doubt that Mr. Bryant had our catalog, albeit an old one, however he is completely disingenuous attempting to say he had received it in 1996 to bolster his argument for receiving a lower price on a discontinued GM part. I surmise he was probably given an old copy by some other owner, because he describes himself in December 1996 as a "relatively new owner" and would not have been in attendance at the Corvette events in 1994 where catalog #21 was distributed for free. In 1995 Catalog #22 was distributed. And by December 1996 when he called, catalog #23 was distributed.
After listening to this fellow lie to me several times I have little patience for anyone who lies to me, and I easily caught him. First he lied about when he got the catalog, and claimed we mailed it to him in 1996. I knew that was absurd because it was out of print for 2 years and replaced by catalog #23 in 1996. Then he lied further stating that it had a date on the back cover when it mailed. Then I knew was making up the this story. We had not put stamps directly on the back cover since catalog #19 was printed.
He did relate one absolutely truthful statement. I did tell him to "have a nice day" when I knew he was lying and I hung up. I always told everyone that when they would become abusive. I have never yelled or cursed or been abusive or argued on the phone - especially on my 800 line. And I have little patience for anyone who will fib about something small like when the got the catalog. If they are that ethically challanged there is no telling what statements they could produce later and it could involve someting of high value.

PS What a coincidence. The very next day another fellow from the same Vettenet named Jeff Barnett reports that they could not get free advise, could not check stock and could not get a free catalog and it all happened on my 800 line. What do you think the probability that they acted in concert to produce the same message? As Jeff Barnett stated "I'm not the type to gang up and slam people.. (ah maybe sometimes). Cyber abusers would never do that would they? Do these dirt bags hang out together? If you want a real laugh, check out the self images of Mr. Barnett at his website especially the ones called "acceptable". And then tell me if this is not a disgusting potty mouth individual.
Thank God, we don't have to deal with profane abusers.
