Jan 2006 Old Town, FL 28th NCRS Regional
This 1957 with F.I. was VIN # 775. Originally it was Snowcrest White with two Blue racing stripes and a Red interior and raced by GM at Nassau and Daytona.
All weekend long this 1956 had a crowd and Joe, the owner was so pestered by fans and questions that I only asked to open the door to take a picture of the VIN. He was so busy, I couldn't get a chance to pepper him with questions. Below the Gold metal flake paint lies evidence of the Snowcrest White and dual racing stripes. The mirror placed under the rear bumpers showed that original paint and stripes showing through.
Accompanying this special display were several poster sized photos showing this old girl in full race dress at various events and tracks. This was just part of the eye candy at this warm event, the kick off to the 2006 Corvette social calendar.
Although this was not a restored car and seemed rough to some, it had 99.9 % of the necessary parts and was parked for nearly 48 years.
Per Joe: Feb. 57 the fellow in the center is Paul Goldsmith and he is all smiles for Miss NASCAR (50's eye candy) at the innaugaral NASCAR New Smyrna event
Note the chrome roll bar and the snap fasteners that cross the top of the door, the dash and just behind the seats for a tonneau cover.
Across the deck lid was this darker discoloration and a round indent. I'm not guessing. :) There is evidence of the hardtop round center hold down nut.
These sheet metal drip rails are in great shape (held with 3 Phillips head screws.) If stored out side, these are one of the first parts to rust away.
This is such an early 1957 that 4 speeds were not yet available to the public. It's basically all there and original. Waffles too. Note the tonneau dash rail fasteners.
Note the distinctive radio block off plate and the tach that replaced the engine rev counter.
The original Red steering wheel is visible under the Black paint. Note the Ivory colored plug filling the hole where the optional park brake alarm jewel is mounted.
Note the two Ivory colored knobs, one above the ignition switch and the other above the right most small gauge. Plus a chrome shifter ball.
This was the proper 022 Delco master cylinder, but the cap looked a little different than most I have seen. Real 9 fin valve covers.
The worm drive radiator hose clamp looks like it is not authentic. The Green painted F.I. air cleaner is different that the usual chrome ones. The tan temp wire clip tip is even correct.
This is a shot of the wheel well on the drivers side. Note the clutch push rod at the top. At the bottom is a 1955- 1956 style washer bag, with the 1955 style cap washer hose connector instead of the usual plastic jar. On the left the parking brake cable curls around.
The radiator even had the date coded Harrison tag in the center. The Blue voltage regulator looks like after market. Note the round brake duct hole in the skirt.
The drivers side also had a hole in the fender skirt for a brake duct or hose. Note the F.I. filter and bracket. I'm no expert, but the F.I. looked complete. No radio = no shields.
Another view of the brake duct or hose hole. The Red interior is also evidenced by the Red paint on the steering column.
Following are copies of the race photos showing the original color scheme and stripes.
Racing against a supercharged F*rd Thunderbird at New Smyrna Feb 1957. Number 9 came in 4th overall, 1st in class C.
At Nassau, Dick Thompson drove this car, which is also seen in this old GM brochure that heralded the Arrival of Fuel Injection.
