1954 Magazine Advertisements |
The following 5 magazine advertisements are
from Sports Illustrated magazine and the New Yorker. They
measure 7 1/2" by 11" and are actually Black and White, not color.
This 1954 series of advertisements all proclaim: "First of the
Dream Cars to come true".

All these photos show the side fender gill
wing pointed up, unlike the Motorama models where the gull wing point down.
|
|
The shift knob below looks Black, while production
models used White.
|
|
All the female models in these 53 and 54
ads all wear the same type of hat and uniform.

Check out the sag in the seat below. Is that
what NCRS says about the padding?

This last advertisement is dated on the back December 4,
1954. I suppose because of it's date it could be considered a 1955 advertisement,
however it too includes the theme of "First of the Dream Cars to come
true".

The opposite side of several of these magazine advertisements
from the New Yorker magazine have small display ads for the following 1954
Broadway shows of that era.
"The Teahouse of the August Moon" with
Burgess Meredith
Cole Porters "Can-Can" at the Schubert Theater
"The Pajama Game" with Janis Paige at the St James Theater
"The Seven Year Itch" at the Fulton Theater
Joan Fontaine in Eli Kazan's "Tea and Sympathy" at the Barrymore
Theater
Lloyd Bridges in "Oh Men, Oh Women"
"Tallulah's Dynamite" at the Morosco Theater
Llloyd Nolan in Herman Wouk's "The Caine Mutiny Court Martial".
Sounds like Broadway was a hit also in 1954 even though
it took longer for Corvette.

The advertisement above appeared in the event program for
the September 17-18, 1954 Watkins Glen 7th Annual International Sports
Car Grand Prix Races.
